Escort Guide

From Mgias

For your safety’s sake, escort guides always escort you on your entire trip during your stay in Madagascar. For example, as an Escort guide when you travel with me, I personally meet your International flight and travel with you to all your chosen destinations and accompany you on all side trips. I take care of the confirmation of all of your flights, checking of your luggage and hotel bookings, and all of the tour’s organisation; including setting up the tents, the cooking during the bush camping, plus any trekking and canoe trips.

An in-depth knowledge of my country and my wide-ranging travel experience allows me to organize special trips in the safe hands of my Malagasy friends and associates. In other words, at each destination, I arrange expert park guides, local guides and porters who introduce you to that area and tell you about it's unique features. I stay at the same destination with you for the duration of your trip. When travelling by car, we have our own driver who knows the local terrain and will meet us in the type of vehicle suitable for that area. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy my country!

Guiding in Madagsacar is different to other countries because

  • the country is large while the lemurs and other indigenous creatures are often small and difficult to spot
  • the country’s plant life is diverse
  • most of the plants and animal species are not yet studied or recorded.

So, self-taught training in Madagascar’s natural history and lots of training in the field are required. I believe well trained guides should have an up-to-date knoweledge about the animal’s habitat and distribution, their behaviour and diet plus their adaptation to their environment.

My lifetime’s passion for wildlife has so far led me to personally observe around 40 of the country’s 50 distinct species of lemurs, some of which are now extinct and are only present in museums. However, of the 32 different living species of lemur have been recirded as still living in Madagascar, I have personally observed 28. I have also personally observed some 210 different species of birds.

So, with 8 years of experience in ecotourism, cultural tourism and birding, I believe I have developed an excellent knowledge of my country and it’s environment and can give visitors accurate and up to date information about your chosen destinations.
